When your Stevia plants are delivered remove them from the packaging immediately, check the compost is moist and water if necessary with tepid water. Leave them in the shade for a few hours and then plant in 9-10 cm pots using a standard potting compost. Lightly water. For windowsill growing Stevia is quick and easy to grow. Simply place the plants on a light warm windowsill. Keep the compost moist but not too wet. Once the roots have reached the bottom of the pot repot the plants into individual 12-13 cm pots and continue to grow on the windowsill. When the plants are about 10 cm high pinch out the growing tips to encourage bushy growth. Once a bushy plant has formed start to pick the leaves as required, removing any flower buds that form. Feed weekly 2 to 3 weeks after potting. For outdoor growing Stevia can be grown outside in warm conditions but is best grown in large pots (15-20 cm) where the plants can spread and continue to produce leaves. Stevia is not hardy and will require protection in winter. |
