Why have my Sweet Corn Minipop produced standard size cobs?

The Sweet Corn Minipop will eventually grow to a height of about 180cm (6ft).  The cobs are harvested when the silks (female flowers) are just appearing from the sheath.  At this stage the cob will be about 10-12.5cm (4-5") in length and about the thickness of a pencil.  Harvest the cobs regularly at this stage to encourage more to be produced.   If fertilised they will develop into normal sized cobs.
