How to grow Asparagus Pea seed
Posted by Suttons Staff on 16 July 2013 02:18 PM
The Seeds of the Asparagus Pea are sown during April and May. Sow three seeds in a 7.5cm (3") pot of gritty compost on a windowsill or in a greenhouse. The plants require a sunny position and a well drained soil. In early June plant them outdoors at a spacing of 20cm (8") apart. The plants have a bushy habit and do not require any support and are also suitable for growing in containers and hanging baskets.

Harvesting takes place in July and August. To get the best from this delicious vegetable the pods should be gathered when about 2.5cm (1") or less in length. Larger pods are not used as they quickly become stringy and tough. The pod is cooked whole and can be served sliced or whole.
