How do you prune raspberries?
Posted by Suttons Customer Services on 09 December 2014 02:48 PM

Pruning summer fruiting varieties of raspberries is best carried out as soon as convenient after harvesting the fruit. All canes that have fruited and all weak canes are cut back to soil level, leaving not more than eight strong canes to each 'stool'.
In February the tips of the canes should be removed to encourage the development of the lower buds, cutting back to a bud no more than 15cm (6") from the tip of the cane.

The pruning of autumn fruiting varieties is very easy, all the canes are cut down to soil level in winter but no later than February.
